With the residential tower location being overseas, the key to the success of the project existed in the close collaboration with the client. Even though we were halfway around the world, we focused on working remotely with their local manufacturers reviewing the quality of their submittals, light quality, and output. Locally, we coordinated with architects on mounting details for architectural and landscape integrated fixtures, mock-ups of light fixtures with material samples for backlit features and exterior feature details. Coordination with the interior designer focused on the relationship of the lighting fixtures with their material selections. With the interior designer’s preference for using highly specular wall and ceiling treatments and stone, we had to discuss with them the impact of lighting those surfaces, and how to best avoid reflections of the sources in the materials. Onsite, we coordinated on the tuning of the lighting control system for each interior space, as each has a unique use for the tenants in the building.
