In the heart of one of China’s most distinguished shopping districts, Hongyi Plaza in Shanghai is an electrifying urban center with a design influenced by New York City’s Time Square. The distinct, contemporary-designed plaza is located amongst the historic buildings of Nanjing Road in China’s largest commercial center in Shanghai. The graceful oval-shaped tower of Hongyi Plaza contains 21 office floors on top of seven levels of entertainment and retail space, featuring middle and upper-class international retailers.
Much like Times Square, Hongyi Plaza features a 72-foot-tall, wraparound LED media wall that is ideal for advertising and promoting the building’s inhabitants. The tower façade is intentionally illuminated from within via linear, fluorescent, asymmetric uplights, which are integrated into curtain wall skin. These fixtures uplight the interior ceiling at the building’s edge. When viewed from below, the façade’s outer glass appears to glow when it is actually the lighting of the interior ceilings. The lights serve a dual purpose by providing interior ambient light for the workspace.
