The world’s largest indoor aquarium, a futuristic 1/2-mile-long structure, posed several challenges to floodlighting solutions due to its reflective aluminum panels and parabolic shape. The lighting design team selected direct view LEDs to create the most impactful and sci-fi look at night. The internal glow from skylights appears to be light emanating from the bridge of the “starship,” while LED dots are denser at the apex of the “spaceship” to enhance the curvature. Lensed lines of light outline the aerodynamic building profile, linear glass roof venting chambers, and the VIP restaurant – the “Captain’s Room.” All lights are fully integrated into the roof curtain wall system for secure typhoon-proof installation and concealed wiring. As the structure is surrounded by tall hotels and a mountain-side resort, the roof is the dominant visible plane.
